Camping Food Tips from Cadac
You need to make up a checklist of camping food according to the location where you will camp and how you will get there. A caravan camper for instance, can stock more food and supplies than someone travelling in a family car. If you are taking a trailer or will drive an SUV you will have more space for camping food. Plan accordingly.
Camping food tips for preparing the packages
Be sure to measure the ingredients for the various dishes ahead of time. By doing so you will prevent wastage and save on packing space. Pack the food in zip lock bags and label accordingly.
You can prepare a few things ahead of time to ensure quick reheating such as soups or stews. If you have a camp freezer you can store the food in it. If not, take one of the large CADAC cooler boxes and add ice bricks to keep the foods cold. Before you place meat in cooler boxes, make sure that it is frozen as it will then keep longer and keep other foods colder. Remember that our ice bricks will last longer than separate cubes which will not only melt, but leave water all over the place. Pack the food items in water tight containers or bags.
At camp
When cooking in a pot you need to keep the lid on to ensure that the juice stays in the food. It will also help to prevent insects from flying or falling into the dish. We offer various pots for camp cooking including bread and potjiekos pots with stands. Only use fireproof cooking equipment as available from Cadac. While eating have a pot of hot water on the fire to ensure that you have warm water afterwards for cleaning if you are in an area without wash-up facilities.
